The bat-eared fox is an African mammal of modest size compared to its huge ears, which reach 15 centimetres in length. The ears are pierced by blood vessels that dissipate heat and help maintain a normal body temperature; it also gives foxes a very good sense of hearing.

But, in addition to its unusual appearance, the bat-eared fox also has an unusual behaviour: it eats termites, dung beetles and other insects. This predator does not seem to have any claims regarding the division of the territory with others; up to 72 foxes were observed on an area of 2.5 square kilometres!
